Outstanding children’s museum is seeking an individual with a passion for children, education and community development.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will demonstrate:
*A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
* Significant fundraising experience, including grant writing, solicitation of private and corporate donations and oversight of institutional events.
*Proven leadership, including operational management and supervisory responsibilities.
*Strong written and verbal communication skills.
*A creative action-oriented, entrepreneurial, innovative and flexible approach to planning.
*Demonstrated collaborative skills.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Fundraising and Finances. The ED is responsible for providing sound financial stewardship for the Museum. Specifically, the ED will:
*Provide leadership for and execution of fundraising strategies including grant writing, oversight of events, and solicitation of civic, corporate and individual donations.
*Manage successful grants, including implementation, evaluation and reporting.
*Manage a comprehensive donor database.
*Develop a fiscally-sound annual budget for review of the Board and staff.
* Strengthen and diversify the donor pool. The ED will engage the Board and participate in civic networking to achieve this goal.
*Track Museum memberships and daily museum participation. Develop strategies to strengthen both.
Leadership and Strategic Planning. The ED is responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of significant developments in non-profit management, museum leadership and museum operations. Specifically, the ED will:
*Review, update, plan and execute strategies to ensure a quality program, including exhibit development.
*Represent and promote WKM at strategic events and occasions, including working with the city of Rutland and other surrounding towns as well as with other civic and government organizations, businesses and community organizations.
*Develop and employ systems to track and measure successes. Be prepared to report out on those successes to the Board, funders and other constituents.
*Guide the development of the Board of Directors within the provisions of the organization’s bylaws.
Operations and staffing. The ED provides oversight of all museum operations and the supervision of staff and volunteers. Specifically, the ED will:
*Provide training, professional development and regular supervision for all staff.
*Develop, train and supervise an effective pool of volunteers.
*Manage the operation and maintenance of the museum’s physical and exhibit spaces to ensure a high-quality experience for visitors.
*Provide required reports for the Board of directors, including monthly and annual finance and attendance reports. Provide required reports for all grant providers.
SALARY and BENEFITS
The position of Executive Director is full-time. Compensation is commensurate with experience. Benefits include vacation policy and a modest health insurance contribution.
