Casella Recycling Truck

This experience gives children the opportunity to role-play as the driver or navigator of a Casella recycling truck or on-the-line sorting materials for recycling.

Highlighted Skills:

  • Sort objects by material type or color

  • Role-play driving the truck, collecting, and processing waste

  • Role-play as the navigator using the Wonderfeet magnetic map

  • Work collaboratively with friends in different jobs

GMP Robot

This experience gives children the opportunity to role-play as an electrical engineer or lineman working on the job completing circuits and powering up our 13 foot tall robot.

Highlighted Skills:

  • Climb into the control station of the robot

  • Use the monitor and parascope to observe the museum from above

  • Complete the circuit challenges

  • Role-play as a lineman, electrician, or maintenance worker

  • Work collaboratively with friends in different jobs

Mountain Playground

  • Practice gross motor skills including balance, climbing, crawling, and pulling up

  • Role play jobs on the mountain like snow maker & maintenance crew

  • Buy or sell waffles from Waffle Cabin

Farm

This experience is specially set up for children birth through two years old with a variety of developmental experiences.

Our youngest guests can crawl around in their own gated barnyard, away from the big kids, on this miniature Vermont farm. There's even a tractor busy board! Did you know John Deere was born here in Rutland, VT?

Farmer’s Market

Practically every Vermont town has a Farmer’s Market, and Rutland’s is especially iconic.

This experience gives kids the opportunity to role-play and learn about healthy foods.

  • Sort and classify food by food groups

  • Name different types of foods

  • Role-play buying and selling foods

  • Follow directions for shopping lists

  • Identify money denominations

Train & Depot

This experience gives kids the opportunity to role-play and experiment in a variety of ways on our steam engine, passenger car, and at our train depot and engine house.

Highlighted Skills:

  • Role-play being an engineer, conductor, or mechanic - driving and fixing the train, selling and taking tickets

  • Fire up the engine, blow the whistle, fill the furnace with coal

  • Role-play in the engine house or at the ticket window

  • Have a meal in the dining car

  • Make music and create sound

  • Build a train track

Diner

This experience gives children the opportunity to role-play as chefs or eating at the diner counter. Our restaurant features classic foods as well as cuisine from around the world.

  • Role-play running or eating at a diner

Heritage Family Credit Union

This experience gives children the opportunity to role-play as a teller at the Credit Union - complete with a customer window and safe!

Highlighted Skills:

  • Use the change sorting game to learn to identify coins by size and color

  • Decode the combination to open the safe

  • Wait on customers at the desk or the teller window

  • Spin the wheel on the change sorting game and add up the coins to reach the total

Bandstand

This experience gives kids the opportunity to role-play their favorite seasonal events in our town center. We’ve modeled these activities after popular Rutland traditions.

Highlights:

  • Wear a band leader costume, play instruments, or start a marching band with friends.

  • Use easels to stage your own version of “Art in the Park".

  • Choose a Halloween costume and plan your own Halloween Parade through Wonderfet.

  • Run a Christmas tree sale and decorate for the holidays.

Wonder in the Woods

This experience gives kids the opportunity to role-play outdoor adventures in the Vermont woods.

Wonder in the Woods

Even the youngest child can appreciate the beauty of Vermont’s woodlands.

Highlighted Skills:

  • Pick apples from our magnetic apple trees

  • Tell a story using our animal puppets representing different Vermont forest creatures

  • Sit around the campfire with your friends before camping out in your tent

  • Build a rock wall or stack stones for a cairn

  • Build a fairy house with our rustic wooden blocks

  • Use our nine soft-sculpture blocks to create different animal puzzles

Jr. Mint

This experience gives kids the opportunity to create with a variety of media. This space was designed in collaboration with our partner The Mint - Rutland's Maker Space.

  • Develop fine motor skills by using various art tools
